“ We had a great time on a Wednesday night. If you order a meal, you can get a max of 5 small lime margaritas for $1 each. We went with the frozen but you can also do on the rocks. You get chips and salsa upon arrival. The seating area is much larger than I expected and it was not packed on at around 8:15. They had on a soccer game with music playing so it is very loud. If you are looking for a quiet date night this is not it. It is lively but enjoyable. They are very loud when it comes to birthdays so that was nice to see. We ordered the burrito supreme and Arroz Chaufa. The burrito supreme was very mediocre. The beef was seasoned in a way I was not used to. But it was not overbearing. The Arroz Chaufa was good. It was also different. I got it with chicken but I think it could have used some shrimp. They do have a seafood version but I wanted to play it safe for my first time. The menu is large so there is something for almost everyone. Overall, I will come back especially on margarita night. I will definitely try something new next time. ”

“ ILL ALPACA MY PARTY HAT! Everyone talks so highly about this spot. I am not just talking about us Yelpers, I am talking about EVERYONE! Yelpers and non Yelpers. A friend and I typically grab dinner once a week or at least every other week. At first he chose the spots, but as I have learned more and more about the Birmingham area, I have been coming up with some of the spots that are a must try for us. Sabor Latino has been on my list for a while now since it seems like everyone and their mother talks about this spot. So I asked if we could come here last night. It was a resounding YES. I have to agree with some other reviews about this restaurant being in a kind of seedy area, but if you hit the resturant as we did at just the right time, you will be fine. We got here right as they opened for their dinner seating (5pm) and basically received private dining experience which was great. There is nothing similar to this spot in Birmingham, a split between Mexican and Peruvian food. But the people who have tried this spot previously have told me have said that they prefer the Peruvian food over the Mexican food. So that is what I was leaning more towards. I feel as though this is important information going in. So if you are wanting to come and check out Sabor, I highly suggest ordering off the Peruvian food menu and not the Mexican. For drinks there was a HUGE menu of frozen drinks, beers (both local and regional) and some other cocktails. I ordered the peach daiquiri in a medium size. Shockingly the medium sized drink came out in a glass that was similar to a goblet. It made me wonder what a large drink would look like. Oh my god it had to be similar to a fish bowl. As soon as we sat down we were given a bowl of salsa with a basket of chips. This is definitely a major plus. Some restaurants in town you need to pay for this, but I wanted to highlight that it was complementary here. Since I went towards the Peruvian food and NOT the Mexican food, I ordered the Aji De Gallina which was similar to a chicken and rice dish. It was delicious and with a bright yellow turmeric tasting sauce. The only thing that I wish was different about that dish was that it seemed to be all the same color. If the chef had added a spring of basil or thyme onto the plate then that would have given at least another color to the plate other than the color of the plate (white), plus white rice and then the chicken in sauce. I felt it needed another color added onto the plate for a better plate presentation. But maybe that is just me. Overall, fantastic experience here. Would love to come back and order a different dish. The people are great, food is exceptional (as long as you know which menu to order off of). If you have not had the chance to check it out, you need to! ”

“ A bit of a drive from our hotel but was worth it. It's in a Latin flare strip mall. The fish was very fresh and tender inside crispy outside. Came with a lemony salad w/picked red onions and avocado slices. I substituted rice instead of fries no problem. Fried Guava was ok but I asked for hot sauce and they brought me a yellow garlicky hot sauce that picked picked them up a few notches and the rice. Beef empanada was excellent with a crispy outer crust. Had a papaya drink too cool down. Service was excellent staff very friendly and accommodating. My other 3 friends enjoyed their meal also so we were very happy we made the drive, now off to Muay Thai World Games match off of City Walk. ”

“ Unsuspecting in a strip mall, sabor latino is the only place I know of in town to find Peruvian food, though they also have a full Mexican food menu. The place is expansive and one of few places in town you can walk in and most likely secure a large table without a reservation. The place was very close to completely full on a Friday night at peak hours. Service was very good, our server clearly had a lot of tables and managed to keep our chips replenished for our table of 7. I enjoyed my margarita. The menu has maybe too many options, they could probably make it a little smaller and still do well, but none of our 7 different dishes were bad, in fact we each said our meal was very good, some said great. They all came out hot together, and our order was perfectly correct including customizations. Our server spoke both Spanish and English. I'm removing one star only because the food wasn't mind blowing or the best Peruvian I've had. Though I suspect part of that is knowing which items on the menu are the best. I will definitely be back to try more items and this is really a wonderful place to bring a group and enjoy drinks, appetizers, and dinner. Bonus points because the bathrooms were very clean and smelled nice, always a plus! ”

“ I came across this place online while trying to find a Latino place open for takeout. And a great find it was indeed! I ordered the arroz con mariscos and three tamales. The rice and seafood dish was really good. Flavorful rice that was seasoned with onions, peppers, and an assortment of seafood including squid, a mussel, shrimp, and even a baby octopus! The tamales were also great. Soft and savory with a homemade feel, wrapped in banana leaves. They were stuffed with chicken, and one even had a black olive in it. Definitely coming back here once dining in is a thing again. Bonus - go a few shops down to the La Nueva Michoacana to get ice cream afterwards. ”
